In 1871, one of the greatest mediums and leaders of Spiritualism, Emma Hardinge Britten, used her mediumship to channel the original wording of what has now become Spiritualism's Seven Principles. They were derived from the spirit of Robert Owen who communicated the concepts of our Principles to Emma with an intent to providing a guide to the philosophy of Spiritualism - one that all Spiritualists could- and would agree on.

Our Seven Principles are very important to Spiritualists, being the foundation of our religion. The belief and acceptance of these principles is essential in becoming a Spiritualist affiliated to the Spiritualist National Union. However, unlike other religions, Spiritualism does not dictate on how you should personally choose to interpret the Seven Principles best, or how you live you life by them.

For an explaination of how the Spiritualists National Union interprets The Seven Principles, visit http://www.snu.org.uk/Spiritualism/philosophy.htm.

However, you may want to take a few moments to read each one carefully and see how they might relate and speak to you, personally, as Spiritualism intends them to.
